This may be Chinle Formation. It certainly looks like it to me, but the Carmel had fooled me earlier, so I won't draw any conclusions until I can ask the Grand Staircase rangers again. This ridge and cliff system extends at least twice as far as my camera could accomodate, so perhaps that gives some idea of the impression the area makes. There's also some other interesting stuff behind me -- this stretch of road is on a neck, so some folks will think it a tad scary. I should mention the signs at the end imply that some residents or maps called the town Pareah rather than Pariah; there is no explanation. I always see the river as 'Pariah.' This was the last scenic stop of the day before heading to Kanab. The internet access at the Kanab Super 8 worked great, and the food at Nedra's was exceptional as always. I suppose we won't be back, at least not to stay, since while there I read about the weird 'family values' anti-american resolution they passed. Oh well. Ak already knew about it. |
