Since the mud was making a mess of things, we decided to drift toward Kanab with the plan of eventually exploring a bit of Kolob Canyons (the smaller, upper Zion National Park Unit). This was in part sparked by the ineffective internet access at the Page Super 8, and partly because more rain was coming in a few days -- so our prospects looked even worse. The bright spot of the evening had been dinner at Strombolli's, an okay Italian restaurant. Just being 'okay' in Page is a real bonus, since it's a severely restaurant-challenged locale. So what we have here is a series of parting shots for this trip, starting with a view of the dam from the Scenic Loop Overlook. It's better than this photo implies, and you should stop and take a short hike. Even better, they have a fancy NRA office with very helpful staff, who insisted we should make the hike to Hanging Gardens, which starts just a short distance above the dam on the Page side. So, of course, we did. |
