The Vishnu Schist, of course. The monstrously compressed and metamorphosed precambrian rock from which the steep inner gorge is cut. I've heard of this since I was a kid, poring over geology articles and texts (I was a tiresome rock collector, which my parents made fun of. Later in life, they became far more devoted than I had ever been...) This is directly across the river from the granite Ak is scrambling on the previous page. There is also some right across the creek. |
