After Antelope we headed back out of Page toward another slot we heard about: Waterholes Canyon. We just got a hiking permit from kindly and patient Alma Yellowman at the Antelope gate. Comes with a crude map, and you're on your own with no guides. Woo! Exactly my style. On the way we stopped for a 3/4 mile hike to see this little tidbit. The photo is a composite from an angle that doesn't exist, so there'some minor warpage effect at lower right. But it gets the idea across pretty well, including the goofy winking face on the center rock. There is some marked deformation in the rock out of the picture to the left that makes me wonder if the local geology isn't fairly interesting here, but I have no information. |
