Leaving, the wind blew hard in my face in the back of the truck. Too hard: it blew off my old hat. It wasn't much, and I didn't want to be rude, so I just let it be.

But the guide had seen it somehow, and stopped the truck. I got out and ran back for it while he backed the truck up. I jumped on and yelled "Thank you." But that was just not good enough, and I knew it.

Later, I found myself in an interpretive center. This was the perfect place, so I asked how does one say "thank you" in Navajo? I have since seen it spelled as "ahe 'e" but the woman who told me said something more like i-hya or ee-hya, more likely something in between.

But I think he'd recognize the sound.
