Our first view of The Rock from the trail (much of the view is obscured by walls most of the trip). You can see our point of furthest penetration just below the rock. I decided it would be unproductive to proceed further, though we had time left safely. As it turns out, I was right (and judging distance in The Canyon is nearly impossible. Trust your map!) Note how much more vivid the colors are, and greater detail is beginning to show up in the lower canyon. I suspect a good deal of the haze layer is right at the rim. Even modest descent offers vastly improved views. |
