The next evening I got a picture of the crowd collecting for sunset at Mather Point. This is early, so it isn't quite as crowded as it will get. With more time on our hands, we worked our way over to Yavapai Point, which is more genial. We even sortied in the direction of the Village, but that has become such a horrifying little town that we were pushed away as if by some negative gravity. Note the exceptional haze blurring the far canyon. Makes for nice colors, but obscures the view. That's not moisture -- it's smoke from fires that had been burning for over two months. Part of the new 'let it be' approach to fire management. |
