Once you're up, you'll know it. Most of the area is flat, with easy footing. You'll see scenes like this. At the horizon line, you can see how most of the red member has been eroded on this shelf -- it's clearly exposed on both sides. In fact, this shelf may be geologically quite short lived ... just a carpet spread over the next layer down. This is just one of a series of similar box canyons running along this lower step of the Grand Staircase. |
