Our fearless leader (you can see the soles of his shoes at the top of
the photo) had tons to say about wombats. I won't repeat it all here,
but suffice with letting you know they're the smartest of the Tasmanian
marsupials, and they use a hard plate on their butt to fight with.
This one is quite young, orphaned through road kill. They're friendly
and cuddly when young, but eventually turn nasty as adults. Raising
them by hand has no effect on their adult behavior at all, so they can
bring up orphans in the park and, when the time comes, just let 'em
go. And, we're told, run for it.
