Loved this place. It's the path to what's generally known as Hastings
Cave, but that's a bunch of caves. This one has its own name that I have
managed to thoroughly forget. The trail wanders through lush rainforest
with the most amazing light, at least that day. Tasmania is rotten with
this kind of thing, actually, but it really is wonderful anyway.
The gentleman on the bridge was the tourguide for this excursion, name of
Dud. From Virginia, it turns out, thus the sobriquet. He called me 'Illinois'
until we introduced each other formally. He'd been there long enough (since
1969, so now 40 years) to soak up the Tasmanian ambiance; I did not guess
he was a yank. Casual and laid back, good humored.
I should probably move there. It would improve my attitude too.
