Driving in the southern road is much nicer than using the lower, better
alternate that goes by Panamint Springs. But it's a bad road, so be ready
for it. On the way through, you can stop at Aguerraberry Point (I think
that's the right spelling, but Arglebargle just works better) for what
would be the best view I've seen of the valley, save that there's a ridge
blocking part of the floor. Oh well. But it's spectacular, the road up
is darned interesting, and we were alone up there (dirt access only).
There's the ridge I was talking about. I didn't mind that much because
the view was still pretty good. This was six shots (vertical) composited
with very little difficulty. Note the warp in the ridge.
A much simpler shot: composite of three horizontals. Note the blending
weirdness in the portion of the valley that shows through. I really like
the warp in that ridge, which shows more dramatically here.
You can see a fair amount of the northern end of the valley from there,
but it's awfully small in this picture. Note the uneven light and the
"seam" in left/center where disparate exposures were blended.
