We Interrupt For A Technical Difficulty

Downhill Racer

Just one of the better bumpy stretches along this road. Ak seemed to really enjoy this kind of thing, and I know I did. But we were already noting this "short" drive was likely to take a little longer than anticipated.

Not long after this, we came to a climb up what looked like shattered Kayenta sandstone (lots of horizontal plates) that initially got the reaction "we're supposed to drive up that...?" But after inspecting the lines, it was obvious that one of them was pretty easy.

Nevertheless, I sincerely regret not shooting the trail at that point: even in a photo I'm sure it would have looked scary.

At the top were some bicyclists who never doubted our prowess, and were far enough into their ride to start to muse that perhaps we had the better vehicle that day. I didn't have the heart to point out that the second half of the trail (from their point of view) is often just dull road.

We did accomplish the top of Gemini Bridges, which was kinda neat (I got an okay shot, but Ak was right: it's much more interesting from below). To my surprise, the road after that became more or less just a dull grind after about half a mile.
