Getting down in isn't all that simple. The 'obvious' path leads to a sharp dropoff, so we scouted around and found an easier walk-in entrance. At first, it's not very 'slotty' since the walls are set fairly wide. But the map promised 'good narrows' after a short walk. On the way I spotted this, which is nice but really an attempt to turn Waterholes into Antelope. Wrong. They are two very separate places. Immediately you're struck by how comparatively quiet it is, nobody there, and how much more light gets in. Also, the walls have a lot more structure, shape and form in wildly varied ways. Going for the 'otherworldly color' is not the best way to look at this canyon, methinks. |
