Looking in the other direction from the same point as the last photo, it's easy to see how broad and flat the Canyon is when it's just sluicing through softer sedimentary layers. The river literally meanders at will, going where its appetite leads. Not far upriver the Little Colorado enters the Canyon without much effect. Its channel is easily seen on the plateau out of the picture to the right. |
