Some might call it tasteless. Some might think it a quaint devotional to
the 60s idea of The Future, which appears to have disappeared. But it has
at least one great virtue: you can't generally see it. This magnificent
sculpture is in the middle of the Scary Tasmanian Traffic Circle With
Stop Lights In It. All roads lead to this horror eventually, unless
you plan carefully.
But the art itself is set down in a pedestrian underpass that is really
nice; gets you through the worst traffic in town as if it weren't there.
So well built you don't even hear the cars and trucks above. And you
get this treat right in the middle! For some reason (perhaps having to
do with drought) the Fountain Feature was not running.
After we had walked through this I opined to Ak that this was indeed
the Seventh Circle Of Hell from underneath and she said 'no way.' But
subsequent drives proved me right.
