We thought it might be cool enough in the Eastern Sierra for a July trip, which turned out to be correct. Besides, the Devil's Postpile is only open during warm months due to snow on the entrance road. Seemed like the thing to do at the time. |

Technically I suppose this view from Olmstead Point is still the
western Sierra, though it's more like Darn Near The Top. The tree
is a salute to Ak, who had recently published a similar shot of
a dead pine on the cover of the San Francisco Chronicle. Turns out
she had duplicated a famout Ansel Adams photo and the tree finally
fell down. That's news in San Francisco.
But it was also complete vindication for her obsession with arboronecrophotography. |
