The Race Track is where rocks slide around and leave tracks. You can walk right out on the dry lakebed and look at them, even take photos. So, you ask, where are my photos? None of them came out. It turns out the light background played hell with the scratch on my lens. You can see two periodic 'ghosts' in this picture just below the line of the island (center and left). That's when I got thoroughly pissed and decided to replace the camera. This picture does not adequately show how weird this island actually looks. The lakebed is huge, and this magritte invention is plunked down right in the middle of The Flatest Land On Earth. Loved the place. Go if you can. The road sucks muchly. Oh, by the way: current theory is the rocks are pushed around by wind during storms. This sounds silly until you go there and see what the wind is like on a 'calm' day. Then you have no problem at all getting it. |
