Around The Santa Cruz Mountains

The western mountains are the most varied local area.

This is tafoni, rock formed by erosion (a bad thing, I hear. We have to constantly prevent it, though most spectacular geology is formed by it). I also call this stuff tofuti, tofu, toophony, whatever comes to mind.

We're at El Corte de Madera Open Space Preserve on May 10 2003. I scored heavily by bringing along a mini-tripod, and since that day neither of us has been without one when hiking. I don't think I've ever used it since (on a local hike).

The old Sony DSC-P30 really shined that day.
