After a too-early-in-the-season Mander Meander we caught this sunset climbing up from the creek. It looked better than it looks. A Mander Meander is a walk down to a very popular hangout for newts -- flat, calm part of a creek where they seem comfortable and can at times be seen in good numbers. Only one in the creek this day, but several 'on the move' near the trails (they migrate for reasons I'm not real clear on). Though in the Santa Cruz Mountains, Montebello seems like a local park to me. It's the top end of Rancho San Antonio (which is very much a local park) and we often go to Montebello to set up telescopes because it's convenient. So that's why the 'local' designation.
