However, on the way we found we'd missed a marked turnoff to a path that leads into the core of the inner ring, from which you can get a view of the central crags. Clearly, they held Ak's attention. Those rocks are definitely violently metamorphic, sharp, and hard. And this is wayyy below any expected impact point. Nor do I see any signs of sills or dikes that might imply magma formation. This was a really nifty find. I was regretting not finding access to this area, and at this point we were definitely fulfilled. What an incredible hike! But we still had to get back, and the clouds were on the increase. No, it never did rain. We didn't think it would. But we didn't Know It. |
