Love this picture, but I'm not entirely sure why. We were a bit pressed for time at this point, since we had just discovered a leak from our front differential (probably the gasket on the drain plug, but I still haven't worked on it as of this writing. Not important: we can completely disconnect the front drive, which we did, but it meant we would have to slug out with only two-wheel drive. Not a problem, but we had no idea if it would slow us down. Answer? No, not really). Other than that, the 4runner behaved itself magnificently, proving its worth over and over. That butte, by the way, is actually one of the rocks on the road into Page from the north, and is across the reservoir from where we stand. You can see something of the smog haze in the air, almost certainly the result of the massive Navajo power plant, I think the largest coal generating electrical facility in the US. It doesn't look anywhere near as bad today as it did the last time we visited. Don't know why -- the winds were not high at all. Maybe they're running cleaner? |
