It tooks some downright ragged driving to cast around for the outer bend -- the top of the Omega, so to speak. But that was the last item on Ak's list, and we were bygod gonna find it. No suspense here: we did. And had a lot of fun doing it (half the leaping shots you saw earlier are from this spot). The cool part I mentioned earlier? This is a Lot Of Miles Down The Road. The Knot is Really Big! The river probably travels something on the order of 14 miles (Ak's best memory) to get back to itself (at a guess). Total displacement is supposedly about a half mile in that distance, but I think it's less. Anyway, it's just plain enormous, and hard to appreciate without being there. And of course, the Big Bend is spectacular in its own right. |
